Do You Wear Sunscreen Daily?

Hi guys!  I want to talk about sunscreen today!

Researchers show that sun exposure is one of the significant causes of early aging. It dries up natural hydration, creates wrinkles, dullness and hyperpigmentation (dark spots), burns your skin and, worst-case scenario, causes skin cancer.  Yikes.

Current FDA approved sunscreens are : Mineral sunscreens, also known for physical blockers which contain zinc oxide, titanium dioxide or a combination of both, as well as chemical absorber sunscreens.  Mineral sunscreen sits on the surface of the skin, absorbing a majority of broad spectrum light while reflecting UV rays away from the skin barrier.  Chemical sunscreens contain organic or carbon-containing ingredients that create a thin protective film to absorb UV radiation before it penetrates the skin.  Some companies create products which combine two aspects of active ingredients. It is recommended to be worn 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every two hours after.

I have tried to look for a non-toxic sunscreen for a while now and recently had an opportunity to try a couple of Supergoop! products: Superscreen and Unseen Sunscreen - both reef-safe and containing clean chemical ingredients.  Superscreen provides intense hydration and SPF 40 all-in-one, while protecting your skin from UVA and UVB rays.  Unseen Sunscreen, SPF 40,  is a non-greasy, lightweight, transparent and odorless sunscreen that gives you a natural look.

Did you know you can use sunscreen to protect your skin from blue light exposure? As the online market has become such a major business booster since the onset of the pandemic, a majority of the people are constantly in front of their computers, cell phones and other blue-light emitting devices. The United States is actually ranked 3rd for cell phone usage world wide (329M population and 260M users).  Blue light exposure doesn’t just cause blurred vision and dry irritated eyes, but it can actually penetrate the deeper layers of our skin like UV rays from the sun and break down collagen and elastin, accelerating premature skin aging and inflammation in skin cells.
